Apple announces iOS 27 features including CarPlay video and Siri AI

Apple’s iOS 27 update introduces significant enhancements to CarPlay, most notably adding support for video applications. To ensure safety, video playback is restricted to when the vehicle is parked; the system automatically reverts to audio-only mode once driving commences. Additionally, the CarPlay interface will feature a new persistent mini-player with a progress bar and artwork for easier audio control.

Navigation capabilities are also being expanded, allowing apps to share route data—such as EV charging stops—with the vehicle to cross-check arrival times. A major addition is the integration of Siri AI, which can process natural language queries and access user data like emails and calendars to provide context-aware assistance. However, the advanced Siri AI features require an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, or later.

Further updates expected in iOS 27.2 include improvements to several core applications. Messages may receive context-based suggested actions, while FaceTime could support dual-camera capture in group calls for newer models. The Apple TV app is expected to introduce user profiles, and the Home app will gain new automation controls for smart locks, such as notifications for doors left open.
