Apple announces iPhone Ultra foldable smartphone

Apple is preparing its first foldable iPhone, branded iPhone Ultra, which aims to be the company's most advanced and expensive handset. The device will use a book‑type design with a patented water‑drop friction hinge that makes the central fold virtually invisible. The chassis is expected to be brushed titanium, and Apple has developed a flexible sapphire crystal to protect the OLED LTPO panels, which will run at 120 Hz. When unfolded, the main display will be about 7.8 inches, with a 5.5‑inch cover screen for normal use.

Under the hood, the iPhone Ultra is rumored to house a new A20 Pro processor built on a 2 nm process, at least 12 GB of RAM, and storage options from 256 GB to 1 TB. Camera hardware will include a telephoto sensor with 10× optical zoom. Apple plans an initial production run of roughly 11 million units and expects a launch price above $2,000. Reports differ on timing: one source points to a September unveiling alongside the iPhone 18 family, with sales in late September or October, while another suggests a commercial release in late 2026‑2027 after a developer preview. The device is positioned for enterprise and creative‑professional markets.
