iPhone Duo features replaceable nano-texture display layer

Apple has revealed technical details for its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. A key feature is a 7.6-inch inner display equipped with a specialized nano-texture cover layer. This matte layer is designed to minimize the visibility of the central screen crease and reduce reflections.

To address long-term durability and maintenance, Apple's VP of Hardware Engineering, Kate Bergeron, confirmed that this nano-texture layer is replaceable. This allows users to refresh the screen's appearance and mitigate wear without replacing the entire display module. For AppleCare+ subscribers, replacement costs are set at $19 in the US and 3,200 Yen in Japan.

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo are scheduled to begin on October 16, 2026, with general sales starting on October 23, 2026. The device will be available in Star White and Night Sky finishes. Due to the foldable design, some features from the iPhone 18 Pro are absent, including Face ID, which is replaced by a side-mounted Touch ID sensor, and a dedicated telephoto lens.
