Apple App Store reaches 200 million downloads

On October 22, 2008, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced during a fourth-quarter fiscal results conference that the App Store had reached 200 million downloads. This milestone occurred less than five months after the platform's launch on July 10, 2008, and only one month after surpassing 100 million downloads.

At the time of this achievement, the App Store catalog consisted of approximately 4,000 apps, with 25% offered for free. While Steve Jobs had initially expressed concerns that third-party software might lower the quality of the iPhone experience, the platform saw immediate success, securing 10 million downloads within its first 72 hours.

The App Store's growth has since expanded significantly from its 2008 figures, evolving from a catalog of thousands to millions of available applications.
