Apple briefly hits $5 trillion market cap, reclaims world’s top valuation

Apple Inc. became the second publicly listed company to break the $5 trillion market‑capitalization threshold, after Nvidia. During Tuesday’s trading the share price surged to $342.89, valuing the company at about $5.036 trillion, before easing to roughly $4.96‑$4.99 trillion by the close. The rise restored Apple to the position of the most valuable US‑listed firm, overtaking Nvidia which had briefly held the lead.

The market move was attributed to strong demand for Apple’s devices, a comparatively modest capital‑spending approach to artificial‑intelligence projects, and the use of Google’s AI technologies rather than building its own data‑center infrastructure. Apple also unveiled a new device‑leasing program in partnership with fintech firm Klarna, allowing monthly payments for iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watches. Analysts expect third‑quarter revenue to increase by more than 15% year‑over‑year to about $109 billion, with earnings per share projected at $1.88‑$1.89. The upcoming earnings call will be the last under CEO Tim Cook, who will hand over the role to chief operating officer John Ternus later in the year.
