Apple CarPlay device switching and connectivity guide

Apple CarPlay allows users to interact with their iPhones safely while driving, but managing multiple paired devices can present challenges. While a vehicle can be configured for several iPhones, only one device can be active on CarPlay at any given time.

If a passenger's iPhone is automatically prioritized over the driver's, the connection must be switched manually. The method for switching varies by vehicle manufacturer. Some infotainment systems allow users to designate a primary or preferred phone within the Bluetooth or device management settings. Certain brands, such as Hyundai, offer the ability to switch between CarPlay and Android Auto while driving.

As a workaround for connectivity issues, users may need to temporarily disable Bluetooth or Wi-Fi on the secondary device. Additionally, using a wired connection may sometimes force the system to prioritize the physically connected iPhone over a wireless one, though effectiveness varies by system.
