Apple Cash to require mandatory identity verification by 2026
Starting November 9, 2026, identity verification will become mandatory for Apple Cash.
As digital wallets increase in importance for payments and document management, Apple’s ecosystem relies on a security architecture combining cryptographic protection, biometric authentication, and privacy-focused identity verification. The Apple Pay security model functions by separating sensitive account data from the actual payment process. When adding a card, verification is handled by the issuing institution via SMS, email, or banking applications.
To enhance security, the system uses device-specific account numbers stored in a Secure Element chip. For every transaction, a dynamic, one-time security code is generated, ensuring the actual card number is never transmitted to merchants or stored on Apple servers. Transactions in physical retail locations require biometric confirmation through facial recognition, fingerprints, or a device passcode.
