Apple classifies iPhone X and 2018 MacBook Pro as obsolete
Apple has officially reclassified the iPhone X and the 15-inch 2018 MacBook Pro as obsolete products. This designation marks the end of official hardware service and parts availability for these devices.
Under Apple’s lifecycle policy, products generally transition from “vintage” to “obsolete” status seven years after they are no longer distributed for sale. Once classified as obsolete, Apple and its authorized service providers can no longer perform hardware repairs or order replacement components. Users requiring repairs for these models must now rely on independent third-party service providers.
The iPhone X, which debuted in 2017 and introduced Face ID and OLED displays, has reached its software limit with iOS 16. The 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro is limited to macOS Sequoia. While the devices remain functional, the lack of official hardware support and the cessation of security updates for older software versions present increasing risks for long-term use.
