Apple commemorates 25th anniversary of the iPod with web easter egg

Apple has released a digital tribute to mark the 25th anniversary of the original iPod, which was first introduced by Steve Jobs on October 23, 2001. The company has embedded a virtual version of the classic device within the Apple Music web interface.

Users can access the tribute by entering an incorrect URL on the Apple Music website. The virtual iPod features the iconic monochrome screen and the signature Click Wheel interface, allowing users to navigate through a selection of popular songs from the early 2000s. The experience also includes the classic ‘Breakout’ brick-breaking game, accessible through the device’s settings menu.

The original iPod, which launched with a 5GB hard drive and a $399 price tag in the United States, is credited with transforming the digital music industry and helping stabilize Apple’s financial position prior to the iPhone era. The tribute highlights the evolution of the product line, which included the Nano, Shuffle, Classic, and Touch models.
