Apple conducts layoffs in Vision Pro and Siri teams to prioritize AI

Apple is conducting significant workforce reductions as it shifts its strategic focus toward generative artificial intelligence. Reports indicate that approximately 100 employees from the Vision Products Group have been laid off, specifically targeting teams focused on gaming and immersive content development for the Vision Pro. Additionally, about 100 roles within the Siri and software groups have been impacted as the company reorganizes to prioritize new AI architectures.

While the company is scaling back internal efforts for high-cost immersive video and 3D gaming on the Vision Pro, Apple has clarified that development of the Vision Pro hardware and the visionOS operating system will continue. The strategic pivot also includes a focus on developing AI-driven smart glasses, expected around 2027. Unlike the Vision Pro, these upcoming glasses are reportedly intended to function as lightweight AI assistants and will not support heavy 3D gaming or immersive video features.

Apple stated that these changes are intended to drive the evolution of its business and provide better user experiences. The company has committed to supporting affected employees through the transition, including opportunities to apply for other internal roles.
