Apple consumption linked to improved heart and metabolic health

Research indicates that regular apple consumption may provide significant benefits for cardiovascular, digestive, and metabolic health. Apples are rich in soluble and insoluble fiber, polyphenols, and antioxidants, while being relatively low in calories.

Studies suggest that the soluble fiber in apples can reduce cholesterol absorption in the digestive tract. Specifically, research cited in Superfoods Rx reported that consuming one large apple daily was associated with serum cholesterol reductions of 8% to 11%, while consuming two daily could lead to declines of up to 16% in some instances. Additionally, a 19-year study of approximately 10,000 Americans found that higher daily fiber intake was linked to a 12% lower incidence of coronary heart disease.
