Apple declares iPhone X and 2018 MacBook Pro obsolete

Apple has officially classified the iPhone X and the 15-inch MacBook Pro (2018) as obsolete. This designation means the company and its authorized service providers will no longer offer hardware repairs or original replacement parts for these devices.

Under Apple’s policy, a product is considered “vintage” between five and seven years after it is last distributed, during which time repairs may still be available if parts are in stock. Once a product reaches the “obsolete” status—typically seven years after its last sale—all official hardware service is discontinued.

The iPhone X, launched in 2017, was a significant milestone for the company as the first model to feature Face ID and an OLED display. While the devices will continue to function for users, they will no longer receive major software updates beyond iOS 16, and any necessary repairs must be handled through non-official services. An exception exists for the 2018 MacBook Pro, where battery replacements may remain available for up to ten years from the last date of distribution, subject to part availability.
