Apple delays Siri AI launch in EU due to regulatory dispute

Apple is facing significant delays in launching its new Siri AI assistant within the European Union due to an ongoing regulatory dispute with the European Commission. Under the Digital Markets Act, the EU requires large technology companies to open their core platform services to competitors to prevent unfair market advantages.

Apple has expressed concerns regarding user privacy and security, arguing that providing third-party AI assistants with comparable access to device functions could compromise data protection. The company previously proposed a “Trusted System Agent” mechanism to limit access to specific data, but European regulators rejected this approach. The Commission maintains that Apple must provide technical interfaces that allow third-party providers access with explicit user consent.

Reports suggest that even in a best-case scenario, the system may not launch in the region until late March 2027. This follows a pattern of delayed rollouts for Apple Intelligence features in the EU compared to other markets.
