Apple readies first foldable iPhone while older models vanish from Vietnam stores

Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series at a September launch event, likely on 8 September. Samsung Display is slated to supply the OLED‑foldable panels, with part of early production taking place in Vietnam. The device is rumored to feature a 7.8‑inch main screen, a 5.5‑inch cover display, and a shift from Face ID to a side‑button Touch ID.

In Vietnam, the standard iPhone 14, the last Lightning‑port model, has run out of stock, marking the end of a decade‑long Lightning era. Older generations such as the iPhone 13 and earlier are also disappearing, leaving no Apple phone priced below VND 15 million. Retailers are urging customers to move to newer models like the iPhone 15, iPhone 16e or the upcoming iPhone 17 series.

Separately, rumors suggest a new iPhone Air 2 will arrive with a larger 3,500 mAh battery, an A20 chip built on a 2 nm process, and a dual‑camera system (48 MP main plus ultra‑wide) while retaining a 6.55‑inch OLED 120 Hz display, Face ID and Dynamic Island.

Apple is also testing inexpensive DRAM from China’s CXMT for iPhones sold in the Chinese market, a move that faces U.S. regulatory scrutiny but could diversify its supply chain.
