Apple engineer killed in Golden Gate Bridge boat crash

Daniel Zhengyu Qin, a 35-year-old Apple software engineer from San Jose, has been identified as the sole fatality in a boat crash beneath the Golden Gate Bridge. The incident occurred near Lime Point around 6:10 a.m. on September 17.

Witness Ben Mechling, a licensed USCG Master Mariner, reported seeing the vessel traveling at approximately 25 knots before it struck rocks and capsized. The collision triggered a multi-agency rescue operation by the US Coast Guard and other responders. While Qin succumbed to his injuries at a Marin County hospital, two other boaters survived the crash and remain hospitalized.

Qin is survived by his wife, Yao Deng, and three children, aged 11, 9, and 3. A fundraising campaign has been established by a family friend to assist the family with funeral expenses and living costs.
