Apple expands Car Key support to Lincoln, Lucid, and Freelander

Apple is reportedly working to expand its Apple Car Key system to include support for three additional automotive manufacturers: Lincoln, Lucid Motors, and Freelander. This information was discovered through an analysis of Apple’s backend code by researcher Aaron Perris.

Apple Car Key allows users to unlock, lock, and start compatible vehicles using an iPhone or Apple Watch via the Wallet app. The technology utilizes NFC chips and the Secure Element for secure storage and authentication through Face ID or Touch ID. Users can also share digital keys with others via iMessage, with options to limit access permissions.

While the internal code references these brands, there is no official confirmation or specific release date from Apple. Integration requires both the manufacturers to enable the function in their vehicles and Apple to integrate the support into the Wallet app.
