Apple unveils AirPods 5 with noise cancellation and AI features

Apple has officially unveiled the AirPods 5, marking a significant shift in its entry-level audio lineup. The new generation maintains the signature open-ear design but introduces Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) as a standard feature across both models, including the base version. Apple claims the new ANC system is up to 50% more effective at reducing external noise compared to the AirPods 4.

Key technical upgrades include a new multi-port acoustic architecture, adaptive EQ, and improved transparency modes. The AirPods 5 also integrate Apple Intelligence, enabling features such as real-time translation and enhanced Siri interaction. The base model is priced at $129, while the premium version, which includes a wireless charging case and on-stem volume controls, is priced at $149.

In addition to the AirPods, reports indicate that Apple is preparing to launch the Beats 360 over-ear headphones, which are expected to feature customizable components and IPX4 water resistance. Furthermore, details regarding the iPhone 18 Pro suggest upcoming hardware improvements, including a more advanced A20 Pro chip manufactured on a 2nm process and a refined Dynamic Island.

To combat AI-generated misinformation, Apple also introduced Reference Image, a feature that uses a specialized camera sensor to cryptographically sign pixels, providing a digital record to verify that a photograph is an authentic capture rather than an AI-generated image.
