Apple explores Apple Watch redesigns including screenless trackers

Apple is reportedly exploring a significant redesign of its Apple Watch lineup. According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company’s industrial design team has spent the past year investigating various concepts, including a screenless fitness tracker, smartwatches with different display sizes, and models featuring round displays.

The potential development of a screenless tracker represents a strategic shift, as Apple has traditionally defined the smartwatch category through its interactive Retina displays. This move could position Apple to compete more directly with specialized fitness trackers like Whoop and Google’s Fitbit Air, which target users seeking continuous health monitoring without the distractions of a screen.

Market pressure from specialized wearable companies is also noted. For instance, the Finnish company Oura has seen significant growth in the smart ring segment, capturing a large portion of the market. While these Apple concepts are under active exploration, they are not considered imminent for production in the immediate future.
