Apple updates iPhone loss and theft guidelines for summer users

Apple has refreshed its support page with new recommendations for handling lost or stolen iPhones, warning users to act differently depending on the situation. If an iPhone is only lost, owners may enable the personal‑information display on the lock screen to help a finder return the device. For a stolen iPhone, Apple advises against showing personal details, as they could be used for extortion. In all cases users must keep the device listed in the Find My iPhone app and never delete it, because removal disables Activation Lock and makes the phone reusable after a factory reset. Marking a device as lost immediately locks it and requires the original Apple ID password to reactivate, protecting data and deterring reuse. The guidance emphasizes prompt action to safeguard personal information during the vacation season when thefts rise.
