Apple Mac shipments rise 10% as global PC market falls 5% in Q2 2026

Worldwide PC shipments slipped 4.9% year‑on‑year to 68.2 million units in the second quarter of 2026, marking the first decline after nine consecutive quarters of growth. The drop is driven by a persistent memory‑chip shortage, higher component costs and lingering geopolitical pressures, which have forced manufacturers to raise prices. IDC notes that “shipments are falling, but revenue is climbing because vendors are pushing through price increases faster than demand is dropping,” said research director Jitesh Ubrani.

Among the top five vendors, Lenovo stayed in first place with 16.6 million units (24.4% share), down 2.1% YoY; HP fell to 13.0 million units (19.1% share), down 9%; Dell slipped to 9.3 million units (13.6% share), down 5%; ASUS remained flat at 5.0 million units, gaining a modest share rise to 7.4%. Apple was the sole major maker to grow, shipping 6.7 million Macs – a 10.1% increase – and raising its market share to 9.9%. IDC attributes the boost to the launch of the low‑priced MacBook Neo and Apple’s ability to secure memory supply, as noted by IDC vice‑president Jean Philippe Bouchard.

The memory shortage is expected to persist until early 2028, keeping component prices high and pressuring inventory levels. Vendors anticipate a sharper slowdown in the second half of 2026 and are preparing for further price hikes in 2027.
