Apple Boosts PC Share Amid Global Shipment Drop

IDC’s Q2 2026 report shows global personal‑computer shipments fell 4.9% year‑on‑year to 68.2 million units, marking the first decline in two years after nine consecutive quarters of growth. The slowdown is attributed to a persistent shortage of DRAM and NAND memory and rising component costs, a situation analysts expect to last until early 2028. Manufacturers are passing higher costs to consumers, driving up PC prices.

Apple is the only major vendor that increased deliveries, shipping about 6.7 million Macs – roughly 800,000 more than a year earlier – and raising its share of the PC market from 8.5% to about 9.9%, close to the 10% mark. The gain is linked to strong demand for the new MacBook Neo and Apple’s scale in securing memory supplies. Other leading brands such as Lenovo, Dell and HP reported declines in shipments and market share. While Apple benefits from its supply‑chain strength, it also faces higher component prices, with recent price hikes announced for its Mac lineup.
