Apple, Google, and Samsung face US patent infringement investigation

The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) has launched an investigation into whether Apple, Google, and Samsung have violated Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930. The investigation follows a complaint filed by BoomCloud 360 Inc., a company based in Encinitas, California.

BoomCloud 360 alleges that the three technology giants have infringed upon three specific patents related to spatial audio technology. These patents cover methods for adjusting amplification, compensating for asymmetrical speaker layouts, and managing cross-channel interference to ensure accurate spatial audio processing.

The complaint targets various consumer electronics, including smartphones, headphones, televisions, and other devices marketed with spatial audio capabilities. BoomCloud 360 is seeking an exclusion order and a cease-and-desist order from the USITC, which could potentially result in a ban on the importation and sale of the affected products within the United States.
