Apple announced price increases for several of its devices, attributing the hikes to a sharp rise in RAM prices driven by growing artificial‑intelligence workloads. CEO Tim Cook had previously warned that memory costs were becoming unsustainable, a trend now dubbed “RAMageddon.”

The price adjustments affect a range of products, including the Steam Deck OLED console (now 5,822 kr/8,990 kr), PlayStation 5 (now 4,500 kr/8,599 kr), iPad Air (now 6,799 kr/7,795 kr) and Nintendo Switch 2 (now 3,737 kr/6,079 kr). Apple says the higher component costs, rather than ordinary inflation, are the primary driver of the new pricing.

The RAM price surge is linked to increased demand from AI model training and large data‑center operations, which are prompting major tech firms to purchase larger volumes of memory chips, pushing global prices upward.
