Apple may launch HomePad smart home hub on October 13

Apple is reportedly preparing to expand its smart home ecosystem with the launch of a new central hub, tentatively named HomePad (internal code J490). According to reports from Bloomberg, the company may unveil this device on October 13, alongside updated versions of the HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K.

The HomePad is expected to feature a 6-inch square touchscreen and will be available in two formats: a desktop version with a metal arm inspired by the iMac G4 design, and a slim version for wall mounting. The device is expected to lack an internal battery, instead relying on USB-C power. It will likely be offered in finishes such as Silver, Space Gray, Starlight, and Rose Pink.

A key component of the new hardware is the integration of advanced Siri AI and Apple Intelligence. The device may use AI-powered facial recognition to identify different family members, allowing it to provide personalized content, such as specific calendars, music, and photos. The hub is also expected to run on a new dedicated operating system, potentially called homeOS, to coordinate smart home devices via HomeKit and Matter.
