Apple integrates Alibaba’s Qwen AI for Siri in China
Apple has briefly published a support guide for Mac users in mainland China detailing how to connect Alibaba’s Qwen AI model to Siri and Writing Tools. The guide, which appeared on August 8, 2026, specified that users would need to log in with a Qwen account to access these features and that the integration would require macOS 26.6 or later.
Although the documentation was removed shortly after its release, it indicates Apple’s strategy to comply with Chinese regulations by partnering with local technology firms. While Apple uses Google’s Gemini models in most other markets, Chinese law requires the use of locally approved generative AI services. In addition to Alibaba, reports suggest Apple may also collaborate with Baidu to enhance Siri’s capabilities in the region.
To address data concerns, the guide noted that Alibaba is prohibited from using user interactions from the Qwen integration to train or improve its AI models. The rollout of Apple Intelligence in China is expected to span across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro platforms once all regulatory approvals are finalized.
