Apple introduces extra-large widgets in iOS 27
iOS 27 introduces a new ‘extra-large’ widget size for the iPhone Home Screen, expanding customization options beyond the previous ‘large’ 4x4 grid. These new widgets occupy a 4x6 grid, which typically covers an entire Home Screen page.
As of October 2026, 17 types of widgets across 11 native Apple applications support this size. Key supported apps include Calendar, Music, News, Notes, Photos, Reminders, Shortcuts, Stocks, TV, Weather, and Home. These widgets allow users to view significantly more information—such as extended calendar schedules, longer shopping lists, or more detailed weather forecasts—without opening the respective applications.
While compatible with all iPhones running iOS 27, the extra-large format is expected to be particularly effective on the iPhone Duo. The device’s 7.6-inch inner display provides the necessary screen real estate to utilize these large widgets alongside other app icons, whereas on standard iPhone models, a single extra-large widget may occupy most of a single Home Screen page.
