Apple introduces lock screen customization tools in iOS 27

Apple has introduced several customization features for the iPhone lock screen with the release of iOS 27. The update focuses on giving users more visual control to reduce clutter and prioritize wallpaper imagery.

Key updates include the ability to shrink or relocate the digital clock to prevent it from obscuring important parts of a wallpaper. Users can also now manually remove the ‘Now Playing’ widget, which previously appeared automatically.

The update also features refinements to the ‘Liquid Glass’ interface, replacing rigid presets with a continuous opacity slider that allows users to fine-tune transparency. Additionally, Apple Intelligence includes an ‘Extend’ tool designed to fix awkward cropping when setting photos as wallpapers by intelligently expanding the image to fit the screen ratio.
