Apple adds Trust Insights to iOS 27 to block real‑time social‑engineering scams

Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 will include a new on‑device framework called Trust Insights that aims to protect users from social‑engineering scams such as tech‑support fraud, authority impersonation and family‑emergency schemes that have risen with AI‑generated deepfakes.

The system analyses interaction patterns, timing, context and basic sensor data on the device without accessing the content of photos, messages or email. Raw behavioral data are discarded immediately and only a single encrypted risk value is sent to Apple’s servers, where it may be combined with account‑activity checks. If a medium or high risk is detected, Trust Insights can trigger warnings, delay actions or request additional verification for five operation categories – payment, account, resource use, communication and other.

Users can turn the feature off in Settings, but a cooling‑off period is enforced to prevent scammers from forcing its deactivation. Apple emphasizes that the framework runs largely on‑device to preserve privacy while giving apps a real‑time signal to intervene against ongoing scams.
