Apple iOS 27 adds option to hide voice‑note button in Messages

Apple’s upcoming iOS 27, scheduled for a stable release in September, will let users hide the voice‑note/ dictation button that sits next to the send arrow in the Messages app. The new setting is found under Settings → Apps → Messages → “Show in text field” and offers three choices – Record audio, Start dictation, or None – with the “None” option removing the icon entirely. The change follows repeated user complaints that accidental taps pause music and start recordings, a problem highlighted by a viral Instagram post from singer Justin Bieber. The option will also be available on iPadOS 27.

By giving users control over the interface, Apple aims to reduce unintended interruptions during messaging while keeping the plus‑button for intentionally sending voice messages and retaining dictation access elsewhere in the system.
