Apple expands CarPlay with video playback and Siri AI in iOS 27
Apple’s iOS 27 operating system adds a suite of new features to CarPlay. The most prominent updates are the integration of Siri AI, which enables more natural, multi‑turn voice conversations while driving, and the ability to play video directly on the car’s screen when the vehicle is stopped. Video playback is limited to stationary mode for safety, and requires both a compatible iPhone and car‑maker support.
Additional enhancements include a permanent MiniPlayer for music, podcasts and audiobooks, a new Liquid‑Glass visual design with larger interactive thumbnails and 14 new wallpaper options, and improved GPS accuracy and navigation controls. Wireless CarPlay connectivity is made more stable, and navigation apps can now share route and electric‑vehicle range data with the car to suggest charging stops. All updates depend on iPhone models that support iOS 27 and on car manufacturers enabling the new APIs.
Apple describes the changes as aimed at making in‑car interaction safer and more convenient, while also expanding entertainment possibilities for drivers and passengers.
