Apple launches iOS 27 with Gemini-powered Siri AI

Apple has officially introduced iOS 27, featuring a significant overhaul of its AI capabilities through Siri AI, which is powered by Google’s Gemini model. The update introduces the ‘Liquid Glass’ design language, allowing users to customize interface transparency via a new slider in the settings.

Siri AI support is hardware-dependent, requiring iPhone 15 Pro or newer models, as well as specific iPad and Mac configurations with M-series chips. While initially launching in English, additional language support including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is expected by October 2026. Due to regulatory constraints, Siri AI is currently unavailable on iPhones in the EU, though it is accessible on macOS and visionOS.

New privacy and utility features include ‘Restrict Motion Data’ to prevent intrusive ‘Shake-to-Open’ advertisements—a feature specifically rolled out for the Chinese market—and ‘Call Screening’ and ‘Call Context’ to manage spam calls using on-device AI. Additionally, new Apple Watch features like ‘Live Rewind’ allow for a 15-second audio recap of recent conversations, utilizing a secure hardware enclave to ensure privacy.
