Apple iOS 27 updates Shared Albums to support full resolution

Apple is introducing changes to the Shared Albums feature in iOS 27. New shared albums will now support full-resolution storage for photos and videos, a significant upgrade from previous versions that applied compression to media.

However, this increase in quality comes at a cost to storage. Unlike previous iterations where up to 5,000 items could be stored in shared albums without affecting personal storage limits, content in new iOS 27 shared albums will count toward the owner's iCloud storage capacity. Notably, any content uploaded by invited participants will also consume the album creator's iCloud space.

Additionally, Apple is expanding accessibility for the feature. Users without Apple devices or accounts, such as those on Android or Windows, will be able to participate in shared albums and upload content via iCloud.com.
