Apple iPhone 18 Pro faces rising costs due to memory price surge

Apple is facing significant cost pressures for its upcoming iPhone 18 lineup, primarily driven by a surge in memory component prices. According to TrendForce, the Bill of Materials (BOM) for the 256 GB iPhone 18 Pro is expected to rise by approximately 38% compared to its predecessor. This increase is largely due to memory prices rising five to seven times since the start of 2025. Memory components are projected to account for 34% of the iPhone 18 Pro BOM in Q3 2026, potentially exceeding 40% in the first half of 2027.

Market analysts suggest these rising costs could lead to retail price increases, with some projections indicating the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could cost up to $200 more than previous models. To mitigate this, Apple may absorb some costs by reducing profit margins or focus on high-margin services and accessories.

Hardware leaks also suggest significant upgrades for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, including potential battery capacity increases. Specifically, the eSIM version may feature a 5,567 mAh battery, while the physical SIM version may have 5,391 mAh. Additionally, Apple is reportedly exploring a major redesign of the Apple Watch to improve battery life, including concepts for a screen-free model.
