India probes Tata Electronics breach exposing iPhone 18 Pro details

The Indian government has opened a formal investigation into a major cyber‑attack on Tata Electronics, a key Apple supplier. The breach, reported to the national Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT‑In), involved the theft of about 630 GB of data, including more than 204,000 files that reveal design details of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro.

Ransomware group World Leaks, which operates a data‑extortion model, posted the files on the dark web. The leak contains schematics of the new A20 Pro chip, a regional modem strategy that may use Apple’s own C2 modem outside the United States instead of Qualcomm’s mmWave, and hints of a possible foldable iPhone model. Tata Electronics has engaged an international cybersecurity firm for forensic analysis and has restricted internal system access. Production at its Indian plants appears unaffected.

Apple has said it is “concerned” and is conducting its own investigation, while the incident raises broader questions about supply‑chain security as India’s share of global iPhone assembly grows toward 26 % by 2026. Analysts warn that similar attacks could target other high‑value technology manufacturers.
