Apple iPhone 18 Pro series rumored with variable‑aperture camera and larger battery
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models are rumored to feature a groundbreaking variable‑aperture main camera. Leaked internal documents indicate the devices will use a Sony IMX905 sensor with a mechanically adjustable aperture, allowing better control of depth‑of‑field and low‑light performance – a first for iPhone cameras.
The Pro Max is expected to house the largest battery ever in an iPhone, around 5,500 mAh, roughly 500 mAh larger than the previous generation. A smaller Dynamic Island, a new 2‑nanometer A20 Pro processor, a C2 5G modem and possible satellite‑5G connectivity are also cited. The phones may be slightly thicker and heavier to accommodate the larger battery and camera module, and analysts predict a price hike of about $200 for the Pro Max. Additional rumored changes include a new “Dark Cherry” color option and upgraded camera subsystem components while retaining other sensors from the iPhone 17 Pro series.
