Apple iPhone 18 Pro/Max specs leak: bigger battery, thicker body, new chip

A series of leaks ahead of Apple’s September 2026 event reveal several hardware changes for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The Pro models are expected to be roughly 2 mm thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro, retaining an aluminum alloy frame while accommodating a larger battery and a redesigned rear‑camera module that will feature a variable‑aperture lens. Battery capacity figures from Chinese 3C certification data show the iPhone 18 Pro’s battery increasing only modestly to about 4,056 mAh (global) or 4,288 mAh (U.S. eSIM version), whereas the iPhone 18 Pro Max receives a much larger boost to roughly 5,391 mAh (global) or 5,567 mAh (U.S. eSIM), a rise of around 10 % and the biggest iPhone battery to date. A new A20 Pro system‑on‑chip, built on a 2 nm process and packaged with wafer‑level multi‑chip module (WMCM) technology, is seen on leaked motherboard photos, alongside a Qualcomm Snapdragon X80‑class 5G modem. The Dynamic Island cutout is reported to shrink by about 35 %, moving the design closer to a full‑edge display. Together these upgrades point to a focus on battery life, AI performance and a more seamless front‑glass design for Apple’s flagship lineup.
