iPhone 18 Pro Max faces higher cost, larger battery and added weight

Chinese regulatory filings show the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max will carry a 5,500 mAh battery, increasing its thickness to about 9 mm and weight to roughly 240 g. Counterpoint Research estimates the bill of materials could be up to $300 higher than the previous model, driven mainly by a $250‑plus rise in NAND flash memory costs and the new 2 nm A20 Pro processor. The higher component costs are expected to translate into a price increase of about $200 worldwide, with reports of an 11 % uplift in China. Design tweaks include a new stainless‑steel vapor‑chamber cooling solution that may add to the phone’s mass. Apple may apply the price rise unevenly across storage capacities rather than a flat increase. Separate rumors suggest the premium Pro line will continue using Samsung and SK Hynix memory, making a CXMT DRAM supply unlikely. The devices are slated for a September 2026 launch.
