Apple prepares iPhone Duo launch and iPhone 18 Pro RAM adjustments

Apple is preparing for the launch of its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, scheduled for release on October 23, with pre-orders beginning October 16. To support the new hardware, Apple has opened App Store submissions for developers to submit optimized apps and games using Xcode 27.1. While current apps will function, only those built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later will fully utilize the device's large inner display. Apple has also mandated that all new apps include iPhone Duo screenshots starting in April 2027.

Regarding the iPhone 18 Pro series, reports indicate that Apple has scaled back planned RAM capacities. While the company originally intended to equip the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and the iPhone Duo with 16GB of RAM, they are now expected to feature 12GB. This decision is attributed to rising DRAM module costs and global supply shortages.

Technical tests of the iPhone 18 Pro Max suggest improved thermal management via a new vapor chamber cooling system, allowing the A20 Pro chip to maintain higher performance levels during intensive gaming compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
