Apple iPhone Duo faces screen durability and hinge issues

Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is facing significant scrutiny following reports of hardware failures shortly after its October 2026 launch. Multiple users across Australia, the US, Canada, China, and Hong Kong have reported internal screen cracking, bright pixel lines, and dead pixels, with many issues appearing near the hinge area.

Durability tests conducted by the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything revealed that while the device holds an IP68 rating, sand and dirt particles can penetrate the titanium hinge, preventing the phone from closing completely. Additionally, applying pressure in the opposite direction of the natural fold caused permanent damage to the flexible AMOLED display.

In response to the high demand, Apple has reportedly increased annual production targets from 9.7 million to 14 million units. However, the company has not yet released an official statement regarding the reported screen defects. Some users have reported that Apple is replacing affected units, while others have faced challenges with repair availability and costs, with internal screen replacements estimated at approximately $1,000.
