Apple iPhone Duo faces high prices in India and Turkey due to taxes

Apple has launched its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, with significant price disparities noted between different global markets due to taxation and import costs.

In India, the iPhone Duo starts at 299,900 rupees for the 256GB model. While the US starting price is $1,999, the Indian price appears significantly higher due to an 18% GST and an estimated 28% import duty, as the device is currently being imported as a finished unit rather than manufactured locally.

In Turkey, the device is priced starting at 229,999 TL, making it one of the most expensive markets for the phone globally. Tax experts indicate that more than half of the retail price in Turkey is comprised of various taxes, including a 50% Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV), 20% VAT (KDV), and other cultural and broadcasting fees.
