iPhone Duo faces production hurdles ahead of October release
Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is facing significant manufacturing challenges ahead of its scheduled release on October 23, 2026. Reports indicate that assembly yields at Foxconn were only slightly above 60% as of mid-September, with experts suggesting it could take six months to a year to reach mature production levels. These bottlenecks are compounded by low yields and delivery delays for Samsung Display’s foldable OLED panels and specialized hinge components.
Due to these constraints, Apple has set a conservative global stocking target of six to eight million units for 2026, significantly lower than the 20 to 30 million units typically shipped for iPhone Pro models. Pre-orders are set to begin on October 16, 2026, with a preparation window opening on October 12 to facilitate faster checkout.
Despite production hurdles, software features are emerging. Leaks suggest the device will feature an enhanced StandBy mode that functions even when not charging, including new customizable faces such as Home Camera, Home Modular, Flow, Fade, and a Snoopy-themed option. Additionally, developers are already creating unique applications, such as Duo-Man, which mimics a vintage Walkman experience using the device's dual screens and folding mechanism.
