Apple iPhone gains AI note‑taking and built‑in text‑scanning capabilities

Apple has expanded iPhone’s native productivity tools. The voice‑dictation feature now transcribes spoken words in real‑time, adds punctuation automatically, and uses on‑device AI to generate summaries, bullet points and structured notes without requiring an internet connection, preserving user privacy. The function works across Mail, iMessage, Notes and other apps, allowing users to capture meetings, lectures or briefings and instantly receive a editable text version.

iOS also includes “Live Text” (active text) OCR that extracts editable text from any photo or live camera view. Available on iPhone models supporting iOS 15 and later, the feature lets users tap an on‑screen icon to copy, translate, search or share text from documents, slides, business cards or handwritten notes without installing third‑party apps.
