Apple iPhone iCloud backup and storage‑optimisation tips released
Apple advises iPhone and iPad users to enable automatic iCloud backups. The backup runs when the device is plugged in, locked, connected to Wi‑Fi (or cellular if allowed) and has sufficient iCloud storage. Users can activate the feature in Settings → [their name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup, and can purchase additional storage for €0.99 per month.
Apple also offers a built‑in storage‑optimisation option. When "iPhone Storage Optimise" is turned on, high‑resolution photos and videos are moved to iCloud while lower‑resolution versions remain on the device, freeing local space. Full‑resolution files can be downloaded on demand through the Photos app. Both features work without using the cellular data plan unless the user explicitly enables backup over mobile networks.
