Apple iPhone users: AI-powered photo framing in iOS 27 and hidden storage‑draining settings

Apple’s iOS 27 update adds a new "Herkaderen" (reframe) feature that uses Apple Intelligence to let users adjust the composition of a photo after it’s taken. The tool works on iPhone 15 Pro or newer, iPad mini (A17 Pro), iPad Air (M1) or newer, iPad Pro (M1) or newer, and Macs with M1 or later. To use it, users open a photo, tap the three‑slider icon, select Tools, choose “Herkader”, set the desired framing and let the AI process the image.

Two default iPhone settings can silently consume gigabytes of storage. First, the Messages app keeps all messages permanently unless changed; this stores every text, photo and video ever received. Switching the “Keep Messages” setting to one year or 30 days reduces this load. Second, deleted photos, messages, notes and files remain in their respective “Recently Deleted” albums for 30 days, still counting toward storage.
