Apple issues early iOS security updates to counter AI-driven cyber threats

Apple released iOS 16.5.2, iPadOS 16.5.2 and macOS Ventura 13.3 updates ahead of its scheduled 16.6 release, adding 25 security fixes for devices running iOS 16.4 or later, iPadOS 16.4 or later and macOS Ventura 13.3 or later. The patches apply to older models such as iPhone 8 and iPad Air 2. Apple said there was no evidence any of the vulnerabilities had been exploited, but the company is compressing the time between vulnerability disclosure and patch deployment because artificial‑intelligence tools can accelerate the creation of hacking exploits.

Rapid7’s CTO told Reuters, "This is a clear signal that Apple is treating AI‑assisted threats as a first‑order risk." Apple’s approach marks a shift from its usual practice of bundling security fixes with major OS releases, reflecting a broader industry move toward faster, incremental patch cycles to stay ahead of AI‑enabled attackers.
