Apple issues emergency iOS update to fix exploited security flaw
Apple has released emergency security updates, including iOS 26.7.1 and iPadOS 26.7.1, to address a critical vulnerability in the CoreGraphics component. The flaw, identified as CVE-2026-86950, involves an out-of-bounds write vulnerability that could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary malicious code on a device through a specially crafted file.
Apple has stated that the vulnerability may have already been exploited in an ‘extremely sophisticated attack’ targeting specific individuals. The issue was reported to the company by Meta Product Security. The patch is available for iPhone 11 and newer models, as well as compatible iPad models.
Users are urged to update their devices immediately to mitigate the risk. Apple recommends backing up data to iCloud or a computer and ensuring devices are connected to Wi-Fi and power during the installation process.
