Apple launches iOS 27 beta with new AI tools, customization and Genmoji editor

Apple has released the first developer beta of iOS 27, extending support to all devices running iOS 26, from the iPhone SE (2nd gen) to the iPhone 17, preserving up to seven years of software updates. The update adds several personalization options, including dynamic wallpapers that shift colour with the time of day, adjustable wallpaper intensity, the ability to reposition the lock‑screen clock, and a “liquid glass” visual style for a more transparent, frosted look. The home‑screen icons receive refreshed depth and clarity.

Dynamic Island is expanded to let users set timers, interact with Siri and adjust sound settings without leaving the current screen. The Photos app now offers AI‑driven image tools such as a precise “Cleanup” eraser, “Extend” and “Reframe” composition helpers, and an “Image Playground” for creating animations, sketches and AI‑generated pictures. The Wallet app gains AI‑assisted pass creation for tickets and memberships.

A separate Genmoji creation experience, discovered in the iOS 27 developer build, lets users generate custom emojis from existing emojis, photos, contacts or text prompts and then refine them by describing desired changes—altering colours, styles or elements via additional prompts. Apple says the Genmoji improvements and other AI features will roll out later this fall.
