Indonesia's Auto Industry Expands with Chinese Production, Export Gains and New EV Launches

Chinese automakers increased local manufacturing in Indonesia during the first half of 2026. Jaecoo led with 17,464 units, followed by Wuling (9,297), Geely (8,718), Chery (6,098), Jetour (1,576), Xpeng (1,200) and others.

Vehicle exports also rose, reaching 251,705 completely built‑up units from January to June 2026, a 7.7% increase year‑on‑year. Toyota remained the top exporter with 80,820 units, while Mitsubishi posted a 26.6% jump to 62,145 units and Daihatsu grew 28.4% to 66,004 units. Chinese‑origin brand Wuling recorded the fastest export growth, up 71.8% to 840 units.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia donated a gasoline 2TR engine and a diesel 2GD engine to two vocational schools in Lombok, aiming to improve hands‑on training for future automotive technicians.

Amid the surge of Chinese brands, Mazda Indonesia’s COO Ricky Thio said the company will stay true to its design and dealer network values, reassuring that its 30‑dealer network remains stable.
