Apple launches revamped Siri with Google Gemini at WWDC 2026

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference 2026 featured Tim Cook’s final keynote as CEO. The company announced that the new Siri assistant will run on Google’s Gemini large‑language model, a partnership that costs Apple about $1 billion a year for a customized 1.2‑trillion‑parameter model. Siri will gain system‑wide “Search or Ask” capabilities, contextual access to email, photos and files, screen awareness, a dedicated Siri app with conversation history, Dynamic Island integration on iPhone, and an extensions interface allowing third‑party assistants such as Claude or Gemini to be invoked.

Apple also unveiled iOS 27 (along with iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS and visionOS 27), described as a “Snow Leopard”‑type update focused on performance and code clean‑up. The unified version number signals tighter integration across devices. Developer betas drop immediately after the keynote, with a public beta expected in July and full rollout in the fall. Additionally, hardware chief John Ternus will assume the CEO role on September 1, ending Cook’s 15‑year tenure.
