Apple limits new Siri AI to iPhone 15 Pro and later models

Apple unveiled a revamped virtual assistant, Siri AI, at its WWDC 2026 conference. The feature will be released as a beta with iOS 27 in the autumn, but only on devices that support Apple Intelligence. Eligible hardware includes the iPhone 15 Pro and all subsequent iPhone models, the 2024 iPad mini (which shares the same chip), and Macs and iPads that use Apple Silicon. Older iPhones, which can still receive iOS 27, will not gain the full Siri AI capabilities because the AI models demand higher‑performance neural engines, more memory (12 GB RAM for the most advanced on‑device models) and newer chipsets.

Apple’s selective rollout is also linked to a regulatory dispute in the European Union. EU regulators, citing the Digital Markets Act, rejected Apple’s proposals to grant competing AI assistants system‑level access on iPhone hardware. As a result, the new Siri AI will be blocked on iPhones sold in the EU until Apple reaches a compliance solution. The company says the limitation protects user privacy by keeping most processing on‑device, with optional Private Cloud Compute for heavier tasks. The announcement is expected to boost demand for the latest iPhone models while highlighting tensions between Apple’s product strategy and EU competition rules.
